CLASSIC GREEK KEBAB (SOUVLAKI)

Updated: Jul 29

Classic Greek kebabs. Skewers on a plate with perfectly grilled cubed pork, peppers and onions threaded through. On a white plate with a bowl of salad and a bottle of olive oil in the background.

SERVES 4 | PREPARATION TIME: 20 MINUTES (PLUS 2-3 HOURS MARINATING TIME) | COOKING TIME: 20-30 MINUTES (APPROX.)

You don't have to go to Greece to enjoy the classic Greek kebab. Luckily it's easy to replicate in your own home, especially with our Greek Seasoning Blend for souvlaki.

INGREDIENTS

400gm pork (neck or shoulder)

1 medium tomato

1 green pepper cut in chunks

1 medium onion cut in chunks

Lemon juice

2 tbsp olive oil

2 tbsp white wine

METHOD

Cut the meat into cubes about 4cm/1.5 inches across and put in a bowl along with the wine, Greek Seasoning Blend for Souvlaki and the onion. Mix well and leave to marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2-3 hours.

Then take a large skewer (metal or wooden) and push alternate pieces of meat, tomato and onion onto it.

Cook the kebabs under a preheated oven grill or over charcoal, turning regularly, until cooked through but still juicy and tender.

Squeeze lemon juice over the skewers and then serve with pitta bread, lettuce and yogurt with cucumber and garlic with chips on the side.
